Jan Zee in a character-filled Venhuizen scene from 1900

I really like this photograph.

I came across it in the Westfries Archief, in a collection of old photographs from West Friesland. It’s dated 1900, and there’s a lot going on in this snapshot!

The description in Dutch tells us more. Westerbuurt, Venhuizen. Boon, geneesheer.

I don’t know the Venhuizen Zee’s as well as I do closer branches of the family, but some of the other names ring a bell, and I hope to be able to find him.

But first, the scene. It would be nice to colorize it and bring it a little more to life.
