In June 1902, Pieter Zee moved from Midwould to Amsterdam. He took over a shop at Marnixstraat 177, and opened a grocery store (Kruidenierswinkel). He lived very close to his brother Paul and uncle Jacob.

On August 14th of the same year, Pieter married Alida Wienands, in a double wedding with his cousin Neeltje Zee – daughter of his uncle Jacob. She married Hendrik Aué, a cabinet maker. Frederik Zee and Maartje Bakker travelled down for the wedding.

He operated the store here for two years until June 1904 >, when he moved to Hoorn. During this time, Pieter, Paul, and uncle Jacob were all running shops in this area.
